  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups 344g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup 227g unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup 200g granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough
    - Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl until well combined. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until the texture is light and fluffy. Blend the egg and vanilla extract into the mixture until thoroughly combined. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, forming a smooth dough. Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  • Roll Out and Cut
    - Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Sprinkle a clean surface with a light layer of flour and roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes. Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them 1 inch apart.
  • Bake the Cookies
    - Bake in the oven for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges start to turn golden. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
  • Decorate (Optional)
    - Once cooled, decorate the cookies with icing, sprinkles, or edible glitter for a festive touch. Let the decorations set before serving or storing.

Notes

  • For best results, keep the dough cold while working to prevent it from becoming too soft.
  • These cookies freeze well—store undecorated cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
  • To add a hint of citrus, you can include 1 teaspoon of grated lemon or orange zest.
