Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Whisk
  • measuring cups
  • spoons

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, for dredging
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, for sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Chicken
    - Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels.
    - Mix the dredging flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika in a shallow dish.
    - Evenly coat each chicken breast with the seasoned flour mixture.
  • Step 2: Sear the Chicken
    - Heat a combination of olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
    - Cook the chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until it turns golden brown. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  • Step 3: Make the Sauce
    - In the same skillet, sauté the onions until tender and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
    - Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour over the onions and mix thoroughly.
    - Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and heavy cream to create a smooth sauce. Add Worcestershire sauce and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  • Step 4: Combine and Finish
    - Return the chicken to the skillet, spoon the sauce over the top, and let it simmer for another 10 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked.
    - Garnish with parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • For added depth of flavor, include a pinch of red pepper flakes in the sauce.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta for a complete meal.
